Ulrich Quay is a seasoned venture capital leader with over 20 years of experience in driving strategic investment across frontier technologies. As Managing Partner of BMW i Ventures, he has led global investments in deep tech startups advancing mobility, energy infrastructure, industrial automation, and AI.
Ulrich joined BMW Group in 2000 and built one of Europe’s most active and successful corporate venture platforms. Under his leadership, BMW i Ventures has scaled to a €500M+ fund with an international portfolio of companies operating at the intersection of hardware and software innovation—including autonomous systems, additive manufacturing, and secure data infrastructure. Notable investments include Desktop Metal, which produces additive manufacturing platforms for industrial-scale 3D printing; ChargePoint, which builds scalable EV charging infrastructure; and Xometry, an AI-driven manufacturing marketplace for precision component.
He obtained a Doctor of Law (Dr. jur.) degree at the University of Freiburg in Germany.
